Director of Pupil Personnel Services at the California School for the Deaf, Founding Director of the Minnesota Chemical Dependency Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals
This workshop will provide participants knowledge related to national trends in the area of substance abuse as well as barriers faced by Deaf individuals rleated to prevention, assessment, treatment and aftercare. Additional informatin will be shared related to clinicians working with Deaf individuals who may have a wide range of cognitive and communication needs.
Participants will also become familiar with innovative Web-based resources and discuss possible ways to create new services and/or enhance existing services to this population. A variety of hands-on activities will be used to illustrate the techniques and approaches being discussed throughout the day. a training DVD developed for professionals working with Deaf clients who have addiction issues will be introduced as well as other innovative assessment and other related materials.
