The Administration of the New Mexico Alternate Assessments

An Online Web Course

  • New Mexico Alternate Assessment

  • New Mexico Alternate Assessment for Reading

  • New Mexico Alternate Assessment for Writing

photoWelcome to the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Special Education Office’s (SEO’s) web course on the administration of the New Mexico Alternate Assessments.

This automated and interactive web course is offered by the SEO in order to provide information on the proper administration of the New Mexico Alternate Assessments, including the New Mexico Alternate Assessment, the New Mexico Alternate Assessment for Reading, and the New Mexico Alternate Assessment for Writing. The NMPED strongly encourages all participating professionals to take this course prior to administering any of the three alternate assessments.

This course is designed for elementary and secondary teachers (both general and special educators) who provide services to children with significant cognitive disabilities and meet the SEO’s established criteria for participation in an alternate assessment. This course is also recommended for educational assistants, related services providers, educational diagnosticians, and any other school staff who may be involved in providing services to students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.

This online web course is designed to help the educational professional move through the course reading materials at his or her own pace. All materials can be downloaded for reader convenience. Assessment experts and developers of New Mexico’s three Alternate Assessments have provided a frequently asked questions (FAQ) section for updated information on the alternate assessment instruments and process for administration. Once all the readings have been completed, course mastery can be ascertained by completing an online quiz. The quiz was developed to take not more than 20 minutes from start to finish for individuals who have read and understood the test materials provided.

Please enter. Browse through the course materials and sign up to take the course when you have the time to learn the administration process. Take as much time as you need to study the course materials and move through the instructional modules. Please allow yourself approximately 20-30 minutes to complete the quiz and evaluation. Upon successful completion of this web course, a certificate of completion will be awarded to all individuals.

With the NMPED’s support, this course is offered free of charge. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion from the SEO. For more information, please contact Lisa Chacón-Kedge at the NMPED at (505) 827-6510 or lchacon@sde.state.nm.us.

We strive to make this site fully accessible. Your feedback on how to improve this site is always appreciated.
