The CDD Library and Information Network for the Community (LINC) is this year's recipient of an award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, South Central Region. The "Access to Electronic Health Information for the Public" grant seeks to ensure that New Mexicans are supported in accessing health information to inrease their capacity to make informed decisions about their health and general well-being.For the next 12 months, LINC is engaging in activities in the community to train people in searching health information on the Internet through formal classes and exhibits. Classes on "Introduction to Searching the Internet for Health Information" are being offered at the Albuquerque Public Library main branch and in Senior Centers in Albuquerque starting in September. The same class will be offered in Taos sometime in October/November. An exhibit and demonstration session is also scheduled on November 9 - 11, 2002 at the Southwest Society on Aging Annual Conference in Albuquerque, NM.
A Consumer Health Information for the Public (CHIP) website was developed to provide information that will be of interest to consumers.
More activities are planned with local agencies involved with providing consumer health information in New Mexico later this year and in early 2003. Stay tuned for more developments.
