The CDD has been a leader in New Mexico in providing opportunities for people with disabilities and their families to make choices about their lives.
Through the Self-Directed Family Support Project, individuals with disabilities can design an array of support options that enable them to stay together and be contributing members of their communities. The project is based on respect for families and recognition of their expertise, diversity and unique characteristics. One of the Parent Resource Specialists summed this up by saying, "I help families re-learn how to dream."
Families in the participating pueblos that are part of Pueblo Connections are able to identify culturally appropriate supports and receive financial assistance in obtaining them.
The CDD has taken the learning from these projects to assist in guiding the development of Mi Via, New Mexico's self-directed waiver.
