5. Second New Mexico State Task Force on Targeted Populations 2006-2009
From 2006 to 2009, Division staff served as members of this Task Force, chartered by the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
The Task Force reviewed existing state plans and activities relative to the functional needs of specific populations requiring additional assistance and support in a statewide emergency or disaster.
In the aftermath of the attacks of September 11, 2001, state governments were asked to assess their health-related emergency preparedness planning in light of possible future attacks as well as other types of disasters.
The Division led an eighteen-month effort to convene a Statewide Task Force to assess the needs and priorities of people with a wide range of physical and cognitive disabilities and make recommendations for changes to policies, programs and services.
