CREATE YOUR OWN SIMULATION GOGGLES OR MASKS

Field If you have Goggles do this: If you are using a Mask do this:

1. Tunnel Vision

Paint all of the clear part black except for a tiny hole or spot at the center of each eye piece. You should be able to see through those two points.

Start with a total blind mask. Use a pin to poke a small hole (paper punch for larger hole) in the middle of each eye piece. You should be able to see through both points.

VISUAL LOSS

2. Other

Use paint to block out vision in any area of the clear part of the clear part of the goggle(s). Below are the diagrams of a few examples:

Start with total blindfolds. You can obtain the same field losses as those diagrammed on the left by cutting out areas that correspond with the open areas on the diagrams.

ACUITY
VISUAL LOSS GOGGLES MASKS

1. Totally Blind

Paint clear glass or plastic part black.

Leave as is.

2. Light Perception

Cover clear area with glue, tape, or saran wrap until all you see through it is diffused light.

Cut large hole front of each eye. Cover the holes with saran wrap or wax paper cut to fit over the hole. Use tape or glue around the edges.

3. Gross color and form

Cover clear area repeatedly with clear tape or wrap.

Cut large holes and cover repeatedly with clear tape or wrap.

4. Specific Acuities such as: 20/70, 20/200, etc.

Put an acuity chart 20 feet from you. If you want a 20/200 simulator, cover the clear part with tape or wrap until you can only read the 20/200 line. Same would go for 20/70m 20/100, etc.

Do the same with the chart as described on the left. Cover the cut holes with clear tape or wrap repeatedly (layer after layer) until you have blurred vision so taht you can at best read the line you want to simulate.
