To keep you updated with activities taking place through the CSPD efforts on the Navajo Nation, I am sending you a “Friday Fax” with information about current and upcoming professional development activities.

Current Events

This past week, training and technical assistance was provided as follows:

• An on-site school visit was conducted (May 24) at the Cove Day School to map out the professional development activities for school year 2006-07.
• Three telephone requests were received from three schools (Seba Dalkai Boarding School, Lukachukai Community School, and Dzilna’odithle Community School) for school year 2006-07 professional development activities for their staff. Follow up to these requests are being conducted.
• To date, approximately 45 residential staff from six schools (Tuba City Boarding School, Greyhills High School, Leupp Schools, Kayenta Community School, Dennehotso Boarding School, and Naatsis’aan Community School) have pre-registered for the summer residential institute. Registration is full and closed. The three-credit undergraduate course (Educ 293-Problems and Issues in Special Education) will be held during July 17-21, 2006 at the Tuba City Boarding School. At this time, we wish to personally congratulate all of the graduates (high school and eighth grade) from BIA-funded schools and best wishes for your future plans. Also, congratulations go to the school faculty, staff, and parents of these schools who made it a successful school year for all of the students. Enjoy your summer.

Schools may still contact us at any time regarding professional development training plans and/or activities for the current school year. Let us know how we might help in facilitating a plan of work for your agency or school or for providing training above and beyond what we have currently set out to do in the present scope of work.

Meeting with Navajo Nation Office of Special Education & Rehabilitation Services to discuss a parent conference on special education.
