To keep you updated with activities taking place through the CSPD efforts on the Navajo Nation, I am sending you a “Friday Fax” with information about current and upcoming professional development activities.

Current Events

This past week, training and technical assistance was provided as follows:

• The Residential Class for the Chinle Agency is scheduled to begin September 17, 2005 for five consecutive Saturday’s at Many Farms High Schools for five schools with residential programs. Three undergraduate credits will be earned for those who are eligible and officially registered through the UNM-Gallup. The course will be: ECME 115 – Guidance of Young Children.
• The Teaching of Reading class (ECME 119 – Emerging Literacy) will begin next month at the Wide Ruins Community School for teachers. Undergraduate credit will be offered through the UNM-Gallup and we are currently working on securing graduate credit through the New Mexico State University.
• Three training requests have been received from two schools and one agency and we will work on facilitating a plan for delivering training on differentiated instruction, six traits of writing, hands-on math, test taking skills, using technology, and Level II residential staff training.

If any of your school contacts receiving the Friday fax at your school have changed or are in acting status, please let us know by telephone (505-726-6300/6301) so we can make the proper corrections immediately. We look forward to providing you weekly information this coming school year.

Finally, you may contact us at any time regarding professional development training plans and/or activities for the new school year. We always look forward to hearing from you as to how we might facilitate a plan or for providing technical assistance or training above and beyond what we have currently set out to do in the present scope of work. A training and technical assistance form may be requested from our office, which needs to be completed and submitted back to our office.

September 2, 2005. Walk Through for Effective Instruction workshop for Chinle Agency school administrators.

September 9, 2005. The Teaching of Reading class for teachers at Wide Ruins Community School.

September 17, 2005. Residential class begins at Many Farms High School for home living assistants in the Chinle Agency.

September 20-21, 2005. CSPD university contractors meeting, Albuquerque.

September 23-24, 2005. The Teaching of Reading class for teachers at Wide Ruins Community School.
