To keep you updated with activities taking place through the CSPD efforts on the Navajo Nation, I am sending you a “Friday Fax” with information about current and upcoming professional development activities.

Current Events

This past week, training and technical assistance was provided as follows:

• Twenty-four K–5 teachers and school principals from Ft. Defiance Agency participated in the Teaching Reading Methods for Students with Disabilities (August 2–4) held at the UNM-Gallup campus. Topics included: informal assessments, effective reading instruction, and development of early literacy. The purpose of the institute was to equip teachers with methods for teaching reading. The conference was a huge success and many of the participants asked for additional training. Certificates of completion were earned by each participant. A huge thank you goes to our partners from Northern Arizona University who helped us with the conference.
• Twenty-nine staff from the Kinlani Bordertown Dormitory participated in the Responding to the Needs and Success of the Student Learner training held at Laughlin, NV (August 3–4). The participants included home-living assistants, residential managers, food service workers, facility managers, administration, and three school board members. Certificates of completion were earned by each participant.

and/or activities for the current or future school years. We always look forward to hearing from you as to how we might facilitate a plan, including Project IDEAS, for your agency or school or for providing technical assistance or training above and beyond what we have currently set out to do in the present scope of work.
