The New Mexico Developmental Disabilities Planning Council awarded the Natural Supports
Project to the Community Support Alliance at the Center for Development and Disability,
University of New Mexico effective July 1, 1999. The project continued through June 30, 2001.
The project purpose was to increase awareness of natural supports in inclusive work settings
through identifying and supporting successful model sites in each of the five regions of
New Mexico.
Anticipated Outcomes included:
- People with disabilities served by model sites
have access to natural supports.
- All model sites receive technical assistance regarding natural supports.
- Replicable training is offered throughout the state co-facilitated by selected model sites.
- Exemplary agency policies and procedures related to natural support are identified.
- Data on issues, barriers, solutions to barriers, success stories, problems encountered is collected from model sites and analyzed for trends.
