In fall 1998, The New Mexico Human Services Department published proposed regulations governing the funding of AAC devices for all persons who are Medicaid eligible. A public hearing was held on 12/15/98 to provide an opportunity for interested parties to request clarification and/or to provide feedback on the proposed regulations.

As of March 1, 1999, these regulations are finalized and published. All certified and licensed SLPs specializing in AAC can now submit evaluation reports requesting Medicaid funding for AAC systems for eligible consumers.

A packet containing guidelines and suggestions for attaining Medicaid reimbursement for AAC systems is now available. This packet is designed to guide SLPs through the process of submitting AAC evaluations and equipment funding requests to Medicaid. The following is included in the packet:

  1. NMHSD published regulations governing the funding of AAC devices for persons who are Medicaid eligible.

  2. Evaluation report guidelines

  3. Guidelines for submitting AAC evaluations to Medicaid/Medicaid Form 303 (download Form 303 in pdf format now

  4. Guidelines for appealing a denial of funding

Contact one of the telephone numbers or E-Mail addresses below for a copy of the packet, or for additional information concerning Medicaid reimbursement for AAC systems.
