To keep you updated with activities taking place through the CSPD efforts on the Navajo Nation, I am sending you a “Friday Fax” with information about current and upcoming professional development activities.

Current Events

This past week, training and technical assistance was provided as follows:

• Eight special education teachers from the Ft. Defiance Agency schools (Ch’ooshgai, Crystal, Hunter’s Point, Greasewood, Pine Springs) participated in the Data Considerations for Developing IEPs training (February 21) at the Navajo Nation Museum in Window Rock.
• A special education Leadership conference-planning meeting with the five Navajo agencies was held today at the University of New Mexico-Gallup to discuss and plan and upcoming conference. The meeting topics included a review of the 2004 special education leadership seminar, discussion of current needs, decision making, and next step action plans. Further information will be forthcoming as the agenda becomes more finalized.

Upcoming Events

February 24, 2006.

Planning meeting for Navajo ELOs and/or special education coordinators/field education specialists at UNM-Gallup campus to discuss and plan for a Special Education Leadership Conference.

March 10, 2006.

Introduction to the Academic Articulated Standards in Arizona training for teachers and administrators (in Arizona bureau funded and operated schools) at Sinagua High School mini auditorium in Flagstaff, 8:30 am–11:30 am.
