Date: December 2, 2005
From: Dr. Eugene R. Thompson
Director of Educational Leadership
To keep you updated with activities taking place through
the CSPD efforts on the Navajo Nation, I am sending you a “Friday Fax”
with information about current and upcoming professional development activities.
Current Events
This past week, training and technical assistance was provided
as follows:
- This past week, training and technical assistance was provided as follows:
- At the request of the Ft. Defiance Agency, a meeting has been scheduled
for December 5 to begin helping the agency organize a staff training agenda
on the topic of how to use and gather data for student achievement.
- Technical assistance and training on curriculum alignment was provided
today to the school staff at Cove Day School.
- Telephone contacts were conducted and messages left with the five education
line offices to probe interest in a spring, agency-wide special education
leadership conference. Some of the special topic areas could be restructuring
issues and preparing for the professional development transition. Although
in the preliminary stages, further follow up will be conducted for a possible
meeting to discuss the logistics of such a leadership conference.
- We are continuing to follow up on training requests received from the
Western Navajo and Ft. Defiance agencies for professional development activities.
- Discussion has begun to plan a three-hour training session on Arizona
Academic Standards for some of the bureau operated and funded schools in
Arizona that are in corrective action. We are following up on potential
resources with the Arizona Department of Education for spring training.
Further information will be provided as the plans become clearer in the
near future.
