To keep you updated with activities taking place through the CSPD efforts on the Navajo Nation, I am sending you a “Friday Fax” with information about current and upcoming professional development activities.

Current Events

This past week, training and technical assistance was provided as follows:

• A final copy of the Spec Educ 501 syllabus for the upcoming Institute on Instructional Leadership was submitted to the Center for School Improvement early this week.
• Although 55 HLAs and their supervisors from Ft. Defiance Agency registered for the Positive Behavior Management Institute (July 12-14), forty-seven actually participated in the institute that was held at the UNM-Gallup campus. The representation from schools included: Ch’ooshgai (5), Crystal (5), Dilcon (6), Greasewood Springs (6), Holbrook Dorm (10), Hunter’s Point (7), Seba Dalkai (7), and Wide Ruins (1). The participants earned certificates of completion. Some of the evaluation comments were: this is the best training I attended; I have been enlightened and influenced; will share information with co-workers; will apply what I learned; the students will benefit from my training.
• Three teachers, one counselor, and two education assistants from the Wide Ruins Community School participated in a one-week Curriculum Mapping (including differentiated instruction) training this week at the school site.
• Plans are in progress for the upcoming, three-day Methods and Materials in Teaching Reading for special education teachers and school principals from the Ft. Defiance Agency.

We always look forward to hearing from you as to how we might facilitate a plan, including Project IDEAS, for your agency or school or for providing technical assistance or training above and beyond what we have currently set out to do in the present scope of work.

July 25–29, 2005.

Tools for Teaching and the Effective Teacher institute for Ft. Defiance Agency general/special education teachers (west cohort) at Seba Dalkai Boarding School.

July 26–28, 2005.

Residential staff training for Aztec Dormitory at Camp Verde.

August 2-4, 2005.

Teaching Reading Strategies to Students with Disabilities institute for Ft. Defiance Agency special education teachers and school principals at the UNM-Gallup.
