To keep you updated with activities taking place through
the CSPD efforts on the Navajo Nation, I am sending you a “Friday Fax”
with information about current and upcoming professional development activities.
Current Events
- This past week, training and technical assistance was
provided as follows:
- Curriculum Development training for general and special
education teachers was conducted at the Kaibeto Boarding School (March 12).
- Curriculum Mapping training for general/special education
teachers and the curriculum director was conducted at the Chinle Boarding
School (March 16).
- Curriculum Mapping training for general and special
education teachers was conducted at the Rock Point High School (March 17).
This was a re-schedule by the school from March 10.
- Curriculum Mapping training, funded by the school,
for general/special education teachers and the curriculum director was conducted
at the Rock Point Elementary School (March 18).
- Technical assistance was provided to 33 Ft. Defiance
Agency staff (principals, teachers, facilities clerk, home-living assistants,
education technicians, dorm managers, and business technicians) to review,
discuss, and modify, as appropriate, the implementation of the Project IDEAS
agency training activities. A follow-up meeting will be held with the agency
special education coordinator on March 21 to finalize the agency training
plan based on input received from the school staff.
Finally, you may contact us at any time regarding professional
development training plans and/or activities for the current or future school
years. We always look forward to hearing from you as to how we might facilitate
a plan, including Project IDEAS, for your agency or school or for providing
technical assistance or training above and beyond what we have currently set
out to do in the present scope of work.

home-living assistants (east and west cohorts) at the UNM-Gallup campus.
Topics: counseling skills and professional communication skills.
March 21, 2005
Follow-up meeting with the Ft. Defiance Agency special
education coordinator to finalize the modification of the Project IDEAS agency
training plan.
March 23, 2005
Monthly UNM/NAU teleconference on professional development
training activities.
March 30–31, 2005
Curriculum Mapping workshop for general/special education
teachers and the curriculum director at the Rocky Ridge Boarding School.
April 2, 2005
- Level I residential class for the Western Navajo Agency
home-living assistants (north schools) at the Dennehotso Boarding School.
Topic: Staff Role in Student Development: Managing Behavior and Positive
Behavioral Supports. This is a re-schedule from February 26 and will complete
the three-credit ECME 115 course.
- Level II residential class for the Ft. Defiance Agency
home-living assistants (east and west cohorts) at the University of New
Mexico-Gallup campus. Topics: Professional Communication: Writing, Speaking,
Record Keeping, and Computer Literacy. This will complete the three-credit
Spec Educ 201 course.
April 7, 2005.
School-Wide Positive Behavior Support: Implementing BEST
training at the Kaibeto Boarding School for school staff.
April 8–9, 2005.
Curriculum Mapping VII training for general/special education
teachers and the curriculum director at the Kayenta Community School.
April 19, 2005.
